Vinterior fees explained: 24% flat vs the 17%/10% professional tiers

Vinterior — the UK's main vintage and antique furniture marketplace — keeps its fee structure short but splits it by seller type, and the split changes the maths dramatically as prices climb. Verified August 2026 from their published seller help.

The two structures

Individual sellers pay nothing to list and a flat 24% commission (VAT included) when a piece sells. Simple, and steep — a deliberate nudge that casual clearing is welcome but the platform is built for dealers.

Professional sellers pay a tiered commission per item: 17% on the first £2,500 of the sale price, then 10% on everything above. No monthly fees either. The per-item tiering matters: it's not a monthly-volume discount, it's a high-value-piece discount, which suits exactly how the vintage trade works — a few significant pieces rather than hundreds of small ones.

What it looks like in money

Sale priceIndividual (24%)ProfessionalGap
£300 side table£72.00£51.00£21.00
£800 sideboard£192.00£136.00£56.00
£4,000 dining table£960.00£575.00£385.00

The £4,000 row shows the tier doing its work: 17% × £2,500 = £425, plus 10% × £1,500 = £150. On big pieces the professional effective rate falls towards 10% while individuals stay pinned at 24% — a £385 difference on one table.

Which are you?

Professional status is for actual businesses — with the trading obligations, consumer-law responsibilities and tax position that implies (talk to an accountant, not a calculator). The honest line: clearing inherited or personal pieces occasionally, stay individual and price the 24% in; buying-to-sell regularly, the professional tier isn't just cheaper, it's the structure the platform expects you to be on — and the commission gap above funds a lot of restoration wax.

Your piece, both structures: the free Vinterior fee calculator shows commission, net proceeds and profit after your costs, side by side.
